Challenge the Oath
A legal requirement to swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen is discriminatory and unjust. By forcing people to take oaths they do not truly believe we devalue and undermine their importance. We believe there should be a choice of oath for republicans. This is a political and legal challenge to make that choice a reality.
About 'Challenge the Oath'
Challenge the Oath is a campaign by Republic, launched in April 2008, aimed at challenging the legal requirement for many people to swear their allegiance to the Queen.

We believe that an oath of allegiance is an important and solemn act, an act which in this country is degraded and made meaningless by the nature of the oath. In this country we do not ask those who wish to serve our nation, or to join it as new citizens, to swear their allegiance to our nation, to uphold the law or to protect our fellow citizens. Instead we demand they swear their allegiance to 'Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors".

'Challenge the Oath' is a campaign run by Republic.
