Write to your MP

Ask you MP to support the Challenge the Oath campaign, and find out if your MP would prefer to swear allegiance to you, their constituents, rather than to the Queen.

You can write to your MP either by post or by email. It's easy. We've even provided some key points for your letter or email (See bottom of the page.)

This will take you to another website. Be sure to read the instructions first, and remember, keep it polite, brief and to the point!

Visit the Writetothem.com website, using the button below. Enter your postcode and press 'Go':

Click on your MP's name. This should take you to a form where you can complete your details and add a message.

Enter your details and write your message in the message box. When you're ready (don't forget to add your name to the bottom of the letter!) click on Preview your message and follow the instructions (you'll need to check your email inbox). Your message has been sent!

By Post

All you need to do is find the name of your MP and then write to them at the following address:

What to say in your letter or email

It's a good idea to start by getting straight to the point, by saying:

"As one of your constituents I am asking if you will support the 'Challenge the Oath' campaign which is calling for an alternative oath of allegiance for MPs who do not support the monarchy. I would also like to know if you would prefer to swear your allegiance to your contituents or to the Queen."

You may also want to include some or all of the following points.

Remember! Keep your letter brief, polite and to the point.

Say that, if oaths are to be taken, they should be taken seriously and honestly.

By placing people in a situation whereby they must take a dishonest oath we demean the value of the oath.

Few, if any, would object to swearing allegiance to their fellow citizens, or pledging to honour and fulfil their duties.

There is no constitutional necessity for citizens or MPs to swear allegiance to the Queen, as we see in the cases of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Royal Navy.
