I'm 43 years old and have spent all of my life in the UK apart from a few weeks abroad. My mother is British and my father born in Southern Ireland became a British National and served 25 years in the Royal Air Force. My siblings are all British. However, I was born just a few weeks
before my parents returned from Singapore, where my father had been
posted by the RAF. As a result I don't qualify for a British passport
and have to travel on an Irish passport.
I am English by any reasonable definition. However, I do find the whole concept of Royalty repugnant and anti-democratic. As a result I am unable to become a British citizen and have to remain as a foreigner in my own country.
