A legal requirement to swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen is discriminatory and unjust. By forcing people to take oaths they do not truly believe we devalue and undermine their importance. We believe there should be a choice of oath for republicans. This is a political and legal challenge to make that choice a reality.
Christopher Scholefield
As an Advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey, I am required to swear an oath at the beginning of each legal year. As a long term republican I have been wrestling with the passages high lighted in red but for the last 20 years have let it pass, because at the beginning of my career I wanted to avoid a reputation as a trouble maker in this staunchly monarchist community and subsequently because inertia is the easier option. However the Queen could die at any time and my conscience has been telling me that I should consider making a stand of some sort when the hoop-la about the accession of Charles III gets started
